When I was a child of about six or seven years old I began to carve toy airplanes and cars of wood. Later I progressed to carving an occasional animal or human figure. I would take these to school and a friend would say "I'll give you a quarter for that or "I'll trade you a pocket knife for it." I was happy that someone was willing to pay for something I had made.
When I was majoring in History at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas I discovered clay in an art class. I knew then that someday I would do more of that.
After earning a Master of Divinity degree at Perkins School of Theology at SMU I served 11 years as a pastor in Texas, Montana and Colorado. I then taught Social Studies at Longmont High School for 20 years. While teaching I took art courses at CSU and UNC and did my first bronze sculpture in 1977. I was living in Loveland, Colorado and surrounded by sculptors and the bronze casting business. After sculpting as an amateur for years I became a professional in 1993. Since then I have been in art shows all across the country and have been fortunate to receive a number of awards for my work.
